FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why Trim & Prune

Trimming & pruning shrubs & trees is an essential activity that not only keeps them looking their best but also improves their overall health.

How To Trim & Prune

Trimming & pruning can be done different ways with different tools depending on the shrub or tree & its specific needs. In some cases hand pruners are best for precise, individual cuts. For some shrubs & hedges power shears are most appropriate & efficient. Loppers, hand saws, or chain saws are sometimes needed for thicker branches. A pole saw is sometimes needed to reach high branches. A portion of the overgrowth, dead, or diseased shrub or tree, no more than one-third is removed for form, health & to allow for new growth in it’s place.

When To Trim & Prune

Each shrub & tree variety has it’s own trimming & pruning schedule depending on if & when its flowers bloom. With some varieties its best to trim immediately after the bloom fades. Other varieties can be trimmed at any time of the growing season & year.

How Often To Trim & Prune

At a minimum it’s important to trim once to twice per year to maintain health & appearance but some fast growing varieties need four to six trimmings per year. ShrubTeam will work with you to create a trimming schedule that best suits your property’s needs.

When To Remove

If a shrub or tree is dead or in severe decline it can be best to remove it for appearance, safety, & disease prevention. The stump & root ball can also be removed to allow for a new shrub or tree to take its place.
